The Nam Kading National Protected Area in Bolikhamxay Province is now open to eco-tourists looking to see some the most rugged and wild areas of Laos. Streams with cascades and rock strewn beds cut through mountains that rise 1400 meters above the Research Center. Many globally and regionally endangered species call the park home, including the sun bear, guar, and crested gibbons. The Center helps preserve biodiversity as well as helping neighboring villages with sustainable development. Until June 2009 the area was off limits to tourists.
