Volunteer in Nepal! Overseas volunteers are welcome to charming villages and to Kathmandu, the capital. Openmind Projects supports community based eco tourism, wildlife conservation, community development, orphanage and child and health care projects in Nepal. Our projects focus on education.

Volunteers can teach English in Nepal, help at health and child care projects or join sustainable eco tourism and community projects.

About Nepal

Nepal is a very poor landlocked country in South Asia tucked between China (Tibet) and India, small but breathtakingly beautiful amid the soaring Himalaya Mountains falling away to steaming jungles in the south. Some 30 million people live in Nepal, with over 100 different ethnic groups! The capitol Kathmandu holds about 4 million people. Nepalis share many cultural traits with its two neighbors, India and Tibet. Over 80% of the population are Hindu.

90% of Nepali people are still living in rural areas where there they have little access to adequate healthcare and education. 50% of the population is under 22. Poverty, illiteracy and disease are the greatest dangers faced by Nepali children, and it is estimated that one in three Nepali children are involved in child labor. Illiteracy among adults stands at two thirds for women and one third for men.

Community Development Project in Chitwan, Nepal. Fantastic opportunity to help develop eco tourism in a spectacular setting! This project is a combination of community based eco tourism development and teaching at the village school.

Volunteer with Elephants in Chitwan, Nepal. Work with elephants in Nepal! This project is in the stunning Chitwan National Park, world famous for its nature and wildlife.

The Helpless Upliftment Center (HUC) Orphan Home and the Creation School. Awesome opportunity to work with underprivileged children near the roof of the world!

Kanti Children’s Hospital. This children’s’ hospital in Kathmandu is devoted to national child health care. Children make up 43% of the population of Nepal, creating a strong demand on very limited resources.

Children’s Home, Chitwan. This project focuses on children who are parentless or homeless. The number of street children has increasing rapidly and children are often forced to work in child-labor industries under poor conditions.

Openmind Projects in Nepal

Openmind Projects recruits volunteers who supplement the few resources often available locally in Nepal. Child and health care projects have inadequate resources to ensure the wellbeing and nurturing of the children. The local eco tourism projects need educational and promotional support as well as help to attract and take care of eco tourists thereby generating extra income that stays in the villages rather than leaving with the outside tour operators. We develop English and computer, IT learning tools for children and students, teachers, adults, for schools, orphan homes and other projects. We support Community Based Eco Tourism projects. We match your volunteer skills with appropriate projects. You bring enthusiasm, energy and new perspectives that help us further develop the services we offer to projects. You have the flexibility to volunteer either as a Volunteer with Support or as an Independent Volunteer.
