As a volunteer in Thailand, Laos, Nepal, and Cambodia you are advised to socialize with students after school. This is an excellent way to create an interest in and to practice English with the children and students. Some overseas volunteers start Teach English or Computer Clubs. The traditional Thai teaching style is based on root learning. Learning by heart, learning grammar, little practice speaking and listening. That is why an overseas volunteer is so valuable, to give the students a chance to listen to and speak English. How to teach English at national parks in eco tourism and wildlife conservation projects.Teaching English is important when developing community-based eco tourism. Most eco volunteers teach English some of their time to adults, park employees, rangers, officers, villagers or home stay families. Many volunteers also teach English at local schools combining it with environmental and wildlife conservation education. The teach English method is activity rather than class room based. You practice teaching English with other volunteers and local trainers and children. Simple English conversation, vocabulary, simple sentences, games, songs, role plays, in a classroom or outside and after school. Volunteers are encouraged to make their own inexpensive and fun Teach English material. International volunteers learn Thai and to teach English the “Learning by Doing” way, by going to the market, walking around town, going shopping, using computers and in role plays. We promote Team Teaching. The best results at the schools are achieved when volunteers teach English together with local teachers. |
