Marine Conservation and Scuba Diving in Thailand

Scuba diving opportunities for marine conservation: help save the coral reefs of Thailand!
An amazing marine and coastal volunteer placement untouched by tourism yet near bustling tourist spots and beaches on Phuket Island! A volunteer opportunity based at a Thailand Marine Research Center by the stunning Andaman Sea! Help save marine life, sea turtles, coral reefs and fish, all threatened by industrial-scale fishing and mass tourism which normally means lost habitat to marine life and lost income opportunities to the local communities.
Marine conservation volunteer work abroad
This project is heavily involved in saving marine wildlife, coral reefs, sea turtles and tropical fish as well as the threatened mangrove forests. Weather and plans permitting you may get a chance to go scuba diving at some of Thailand’s most famous and popular dive sites such as Similan, Surin Islands, Phi Phi and Phuket for a fraction of the price it would cost as a tourist, and you help Thai dive sites survive the impact of mass tourism too!The volunteer activities include: diving, teaching English to staff and/or local school children, helping staff with foreign visitors, developing new promotional information, helping with mangrove life and other research and surveys.
The volunteer location
Centered on a Thai Marine National Park and Research Center volunteer work may take place on other sites along the coast as well. Volunteer work sometimes includes diving at different sites on the Thai coast of the Andaman Sea. The project base is located on Phuket Island near the Marine National Park Operations Center, a national park that consists of beach and mangrove forests. Wildlife includes many species of fish and shellfish, water monitors and birds. A special mangrove trail begins just outside the National Park office.
Volunteer accommodation and meals: Volunteers work at the head office and visitor center. They eat with the staff and sleep in bungalows provided by the park.
Attractions include: mangrove forest trail and beaches just a few minutes away, island tours, yachting, fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving plus all nearby Phuket attractions and night life.
