Why OpenmindProjects charge volunteer fee.

• Openmind Projects is an aid, development and international NGO. Volunteer fees are the only source of funding our development projects, placement activities and recruiting, training and giving support to volunteers. We have considerably lower volunteer fees than most volunteer organizations due to low overhead costs.
• We develop teaching materials and methods, handbooks, computer and Internet- based material for schools, children, local teachers, villagers, and national park staff as well as for volunteers. We arrange school holiday camps and teacher training workshops.
• We design websites, brochures and other information material for our eco tourism and wildlife conservation projects. We also provide tour guide, hospitality and English training together with suitable volunteers. We also develop teaching material and methods, handbooks for villagers, national park staff as well as for eco volunteers.
• We identify and prepare new projects/placements.
• We recruit volunteers for our projects. We obviously do not charge the beneficiaries for our recruitment costs.
• We develop and provide information, training material and guidelines for volunteers included in the Pre Departure Volunteer Handbook,  Volunteer Teaching and ECO Handbooks,
• We provide in-country volunteer support.
• We arrange more than seventeen 3-day cross culture and volunteer training per year for new volunteers before they start".
• We reimburse placements for volunteer meals and accommodation by local standard.
• We have costs for our offices, volunteer houses, computers and office equipment, Internet, websites, database costs, administration, legal and travel expenses as well as costs for our staff, sponsors trainees and students who mainly come from our own projects.

OpenmindProjects offers affordable volunteer overseas fees in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Nepal. Low cost volunteer overseas fees and opportunities with free cross culture volunteer training. OpenmindProjects offers some of the lowest volunteer overseas fees. Yet many claim we offer the "best cross culture and volunteer training" available.

When you volunteer with OpenmindProjects your fee fuels the local economy since we are based in SE Asia. OpenmindProjects responsible to the society by paying full income taxes to supports Healthcare and Educations etc. Our program fees and the international airfare are tax-deductible in many countries. You should speak with a local tax advisor to find out, in which case we can issue an invoice and receipt for this purpose.

Please note! We reimburse volunteer placements in villages, national parks for their extra expenses having a volunteer, accommodation and meals. In villages where we send volunteers the only accommodation and meals available is with a host family and at the school. When a volunteer organization claims you get meals at the school, project, you should make sure they reimburse the school, many do not! We don’t reimburse for costs for other services and we want a placement to have the volunteer for help, not for money. Some private orphan homes and similar projects were set up to attract donations rather than to help children. It is often however quite difficult to distinguish between a charity or a business motive and whether, or how much a certain project benefits the children. OpenmindProjects’ policy is therefore: The project/placement must show a genuine interest in the volunteer and his/her skills and not the money. If you disagree with this policy we suggest you choose another organization.

We charge no registration or application fees! You only pay an Administration Fee, once you have been accepted and pay for the placement. This entitles you to participate in OpenmindProjects Cross Culture and Volunteer Training and to access our Online Volunteer Handbooks. The monthly volunteer fee depends on type of project. Our comprehensive and regular 3 day Cross Culture and Volunteer Training in Thailand is open to anyone at the cost of 300 Euros but it is thus free of charge to our own volunteers.
